Porter is the oldest commercially brewed style and London Porter was Emerson's first beer. Dark, dry and mellow with some hoppy characteristics, pours a deep brown colour with reddish tints.

The Orange Roughy's scientific name is Hoplostethus atlanticus. Which roughly translates as, hazy, hoppy pale ale with a tropical fruit aroma, citrus flavour, and malty backbone. In the past, the roughy has been subject to unsustainable practices - completely selling out. Thanks to the hard work of our brewers, numbers are now on the rise. Careful you don't exceed your quota, though.

The 2024 Bird of the Year is now also the Bird with a Beer. Emerson's love their Hoiho there in Dunedin and they are proud to have played a part in turning its yellow eyes gold, for the second time. People's Penguin is easy drinking, with vibrant notes of stone fruit, and a biscuity malt backbone. It features local Garston Rakau hops, and Riwaka Amplifire hop oil from Clayton. The Rock & Pillar Range looks over the small Otago town of Middlemarch, that Richard Emerson calls home. Here, locals know Richard to be both a pillar of the community, and a rock. Or at least that's what he thinks they mean by pillar. Whatever they may say, his house is always a popular spot for a beer. And this dark ale will be perfect for a bone chilling Strath Taieri night. Rock & Pillar sits somewhere between a brown porter and a stout, robust with rich malt, roasted cocoa, dark chocolate and coffee flavours that are as bittersweet as the local sense of humour.
